Inactive products

Products that have an Inactive status are temporarily unavailable for sale to your customers. However, you still can maintain inventory for an Inactive product.

Possible reasons for assigning an Inactive status to a product include an interruption of supply (for example, a supplier has gone out of business, or the product is part of an embargoed shipment), you are awaiting regulatory approval to sell the product, or the product is a seasonal item.

Order Entry Cases - During order entry, Inactive products have the following functional characteristics:

  • Cannot be ordered regardless of the inventory level.
  • Do not display on the Product Find window when searching for products.
  • Cause the Product field to clear and the Product Find window to open when you Tab out of the Product field.
  • Do not allow the Opportunities window to open (regardless of whether Upsell/Cross-sell/Replacement items are designated for the product):
    • Do not allow the substitution of Upsell/Replacement items (if designated).
    • Do not allow the addition of Cross-sell items (if designated).
