Processing backorders automatically

iMIS projects an order's shippable status based on product inventories when the Automatic Backorder Processing option is enabled on the Backorder Processing window (from Orders, select Set up module, and click Backorders).

When you enable the Automatic Backorder Processing option, iMIS compares a product's available inventory to its ordered inventory. If the quantity available is equal to or greater than the quantity ordered, the Ship field displays the quantity entered in the Order field on the Enter and edit orders window.

If the quantity available is not equal to or greater than the quantity ordered, the Ship field displays the product quantity available, if any, and the Back field displays the calculated difference between the Order and Ship fields.

A product's available inventory determines its projected ship and backorder quantities. The Available inventory equals the difference between the Qty on Hand and the Reserved inventory as displayed on the Manage products window (from Orders, select Manage inventory > Manage products).

A backorder is an order of which 100 percent of the products ordered are not available for shipping. A partially shippable order is one of which at least one unit of any product line-item is available for shipping while at least one unit is out of stock and cannot be shipped.
