Backorders

The backorder feature of iMIS Orders allows you to place products with insufficient inventory in backorder status. When you enter an order for a product with insufficient inventory to fill the order, the unavailable items are placed on backorder. For example, if a customer orders 15 products but only 10 are available, you can place the five that are unavailable on backorder.

You can release backorders automatically if you enable the Automatic Backorder Processing option on the Backorder Processing window (from Orders, select Set up module, and click Backorders). When this option is enabled, backordered products are released automatically when you enter and post inventory receipts. However, you still have the ability to release backorders manually. For example, when you have an open order with a backordered product, you can release the backorder to print the shipping papers listing the quantity you project to ship with the order.

As long as the shipping papers have not been printed, products on backorder are released automatically to their next order processing stage when you post inventory receipts. Released orders are listed on the Product Posting report.
