Deleting Contacts

Contacts cannot be deleted directly; however, you can do one of the following instead:

  • Update the contact’s status to Marked for deletion.
  • Erase their data.
  • Merge their account with another account.

Updating a contact’s status

Updating a contact’s status to Marked for deletion excludes the contact from most queries and searches.

Go to the contact’s account page, click the Edit icon next to their name, and choose Marked for deletion from the Status drop-down.

See Marking a contact for deletion and Overview: Member status and Contact status.

Erasing a contact’s data

Erasing a contact’s data removes all personal data from iMIS. The removal must be approved by a system administrator.

Do the following to erase a contact’s data:

  1. Enable users to request the erasure of contact information.
  2. Enable the contact erasure task.
  3. Request the contact to be erased.

See Erasing a contact’s personal data

Merging a contact’s account with another account

Merging a contact’s account with another account removes them entirely from iMIS, since the process combines the records into a single record. There are two ways you can merge a contact’s account:

  1. Go to Community > Merge contacts, or
  2. Go to the contact’s account page and click Resolve duplicates from the Actions drop-down.

See Merging individuals and organizations.
